How you give birth matters.

Research tells us that parents remember the birth of their children for their entire lives, right down to the smallest details. What happens during childbirth can also have long-lasting effects on self esteem, self confidence, and parenting.

That’s why I am committed to helping families navigate the healthcare system and understand the process of labor and birth.

I can help you get clear about your desires and find your own voice, so you can give birth on your terms.

Just as no two people are the same, no two births are the same either.

I understand the importance of listening to your body and your own intuition, as well as the necessity to advocate for women’s rights - especially during childbirth.

Whether you’re a first-time birther or a seasoned mom, you need a knowledgeable support person in your corner. As your doula, I bring skills and knowledge to the birth team that no one else can offer.

I want to help you feel confident and autonomous by providing you with evidence-based information as well as empathy and space-holding, so that you can make the best informed decisions for your body, your baby, and your birth.

Evidence shows that having constant support during birth, such as that of a doula, results in less interventions and better outcomes.

Equity, inclusion, and social justice are incredibly important to me, and I believe that everyone who wants a doula should be able to have one.

I am a proud Be Her Village partner, which allows families to add my services to their baby registry. I offer Sliding Scale pricing to those who need it, and I am approved to accept most Michigan Medicaid health plans.

I strongly believe in professionalism, and the importance of continued education.

This is an important time in your life, and I take my role in your parenting journey seriously.

Not all courses and certifications are created equal. There are now more than 70 organizations that certify birth doulas now, and many of which that have just sprung up in just the past few years. Since doulas are unregulated and unlicensed, some people call themselves doulas without any formal training at all.

I've chosen DONA International because it is the largest, longest-standing, and most respected certifying agency. They have a strong code of ethics and clear standards of practice. The training is rigorous, in-depth, hands-on, and comprehensive. Plus - and this is the part that makes my little nerdy heart extra happy - in order to maintain certification, DONA requires their doulas to stay up to date with continuing education credits. (Some organizations claim that a doula is certified for life after just a short training, without any documented hands-on experience and without any requirements for long-term continuing education.)

I absolutely LOVE taking continuing education courses, listening to seminars, attending workshops, and going to events so that I can stay up-to-date on the latest and greatest evidence based practices. While I believe that mammalian physiological birth hasn’t changed much in the last few million years or so, science and medicine are making new discoveries practically every day! It can sometimes be hard to strike a balance between cultural traditions and modern medical standards of practice, so I get especially excited when research is able to prove the benefits of ancient wisdom.
